Paving to Begin on Richmond, Bypass Roads This Weekend

Milling and paving on portions of Richmond and Bypass roads in the City of Williamsburg will begin this weekend.

The work will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022, weather permitting, and will require occasional lane closures. Paving will occur on:

  • Richmond Road, from the High Street area to New Hope Road.
  • Bypass Road, from Richmond Road to the CSX Bridge.

The majority of the work will be done overnight, starting at 8 p.m. and ending at 6 a.m., to cause the least disruption to traffic and businesses. The overnight work in the travel lanes is slated to conclude by Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, weather permitting. The remainder of the work, including striping and sidewalk repairs, will occur during regular business hours.

Lee Hy Paving Corp. was awarded the bid of about $567,000. Virginia Department of Transportation funding from the State of Good Repair federal aid program and Urban formula funds will be used for the expense of the project.
