William & Mary Honors Council Members Ramsey, Kern-Scheerer

Stacy Kern-ScheererBarbara RamseyAs part of William & Mary's annual Charter Day commemoration of its founding in 1693, the university is honoring Williamsburg City Council members Barbara Ramsey and Stacy Kern-Scheerer.

Barbara Ramsey, class of 1975, is receiving the Alumni Medallion, which recognizes people who represent outstanding commitment, dedication and support for William & Mary; exemplary accomplishments in their professional lives; and leadership in civic engagement in their communities.

After a long career in marketing and sales, Ramsey moved back to Williamsburg in 2009. She joined the Williamsburg-Peninsula alumni network and has served in a variety of leadership positions. She has served as chair for the Culture of Philanthropy on the Annual Giving Board; is a class ambassador who helped lead her class in raising more than $5.2 million for its 40th reunion; is a member of the William & Mary Athletics Foundation Board; and co-chairs the Lord Botetourt Affair. She has been a member of City Council since 2016.

Stacy Kern-Scheerer is receiving the Thomas Jefferson Teaching Award, which "recognizes a teaching member of the William & Mary community who has demonstrated, through concern as a teacher and through character and influence, the inspiration and stimulation fo learning to the betterment of the individual and society." 

Kern-Scheerer serves as the univeristy's director of clinical programs, founding director of Immigration Clinic, and clinical associate professor of law. She has contributed to the law school curriculum; led a committee on successfully delivering course material during the COVID-19 lockdown; taught courses on immigration law, legal writing, health law and policy, food and drug law, and the opioid crisis; and served as assistant director of the Legal Practice Program. She has been a member of City Council since January 2023.

Ramsey and Kern-Scheerer will be honored during the university's Charter Day ceremony on Friday, Feb. 10.

The City congratulates Barbara Ramsey and Stacy Kern-Scheerer for receiving these honors and thanks them for their continued service to the Williamsburg community.
