Mayor Douglas Pons was elected chair of the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC) on Jan. 19, 2023.
HRPDC is a regional organization – one of 21 planning district commissions in Virginia – that includes the Hampton Roads area’s 17 municipalities. HRPDC provides a forum for regional cooperation on matters of mutual concern and shares the goal of improving the region’s quality of life.
Pons, now in his fourth term on the Williamsburg City Council, has served on the HRPDC since his election as mayor in July 2020. He succeeds Norfolk City Councilmember Andria McClellan in the role as chair.
“I am truly honored to receive the support of my Hampton Roads Planning District Commission colleagues,” Mayor Pons said. “From coastal resiliency to economic development to interstate transportation and congestion, it is important for Williamsburg to be a partner in regional solutions.”
