Quality of Life

The "smallest city with the biggest international address" explains Williamsburg's unique, world-class character, all housed in an attractive, friendly, and walkable downtown.

National Citizen Survey

The 2018 National Citizen Survey found that 88% of Williamsburg residents rated the "overall quality of life" in the city as good or excellent, a rating "much above" the survey's benchmark, which is used to compare localities to one another.

According to the same survey, 90% of city residents regard Williamsburg as a good or excellent place to live. The same percentage rated the city's reputation and overall appearance as good or excellent, again much above the survey benchmark.

From safety to ease of travel, educational opportunities to health care access, Williamsburg is positively regarded by those who live here:

  • Crime prevention as well as neighborhood and downtown safety ranked much above the survey benchmark.
  • Education opportunities ranked much above the benchmark, as did health services and the "availability of affordable quality health care."
  • Ease of travel by car, bike, and bus all ranked much above the benchmark, and 80% of residents rated the "ease of walking" in the city as good or excellent.
